ABOUT US

Beanstalk Theatre Company is a local arts organization dedicated to providing high quality performing arts training for young people in the qathet Regional District. We strongly believe the skills and confidence young people build in live theatre will serve them on stage and beyond.
Creativity, Respect, Empathy, Artistry, Teamwork, and Enjoying oneself, are the cornerstones of our teaching methods. We strive to impart these values to all our students in a safe, challenging, and fun environment.
There is nothing quite like performing for a live audience, and we are committed to sharing the magic of this art form with the youth of our community.

Sydney has been working as a Musical Theatre instructor and choreographer for eight years. She designed and created a Musical Theatre program from the ground up through Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy, with 20 students in her first year. By the program’s fifth year it had grown to 160 students. Sydney also worked at Brooks Secondary School as their theatre program’s choreographer from 2018-2022.

Sydney is IDTS certified and has trained with NYFA’s Conservatory of Musical Theatre. NYFA’s program gave her the opportunity to further her training by learning from and working with Broadway professionals.

Sydney loves her job. Being in Musical Theatre as a child are some of Sydney’s fondest memories from growing up. She is so excited to give the youth of our community the amazing experiences she had at their age.

  • Performance Skills Instructor

Indy Morwood will be teaching Performance Skills Level 2, and 3 with Anna Carlson this season.

Indy knew she wanted to be a dance teacher when she started taking musical theatre classes with Miss. Sydney in 2015. She has taken other dance such as contemporary, tap, and jazz, but has always found musical theatre to be her favourite.

Indy started volunteering as an assistant dance teacher with Miss. Sydney in 2019. She then taught musical theatre classes with Anna Carlson starting in 2022 at Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy before coming to Beanstalk Theatre Company. Indy has been part of 3 community plays, including Mary Poppins Jr. with Beanstalk this past year.

She loves the art of musical theatre and the welcoming community it creates. She is so excited to share her passion with the kids, and help build that space for them on the stage in Performance Skills this season!

  • Performance Skills Instructor

Anna Carlson officially started taking classes when she was eight years old, but was dancing for fun long before that. Anna gravitated toward contemporary, tap and musical theatre genres which continued her growth as a dancer and propelled her love of the art.

In 2019, she began to assistant-teach musical theatre classes at Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy (LTDA) and quickly developed a passion for sharing her love of dance and theatre with aspiring younger dancers. After three years of assisting, Anna furthered her journey as a dance instructor by co-teaching with Indy Morwood through the 2022-2023 LTDA season.

In 2023, Anna participated in her first theatre production by performing an integral singing and dancing role in Beanstalk’s Mary Poppins Jr. She is so excited to inspire others as much as her previous teachers have inspired her, and share in the incredible feeling performance provides with her students. Anna is honoured to have the opportunity to further her teaching experience, and create lovely memories with kids!
